BREAKING: Tina Kotek Calls Out Christine Drazan For Promising To Weaken Oregon’s Red Flag Law

[Medford, OR] – During tonight’s debate at KOBI in Medford, Tina Kotek called out Christine Drazan for her recent remarks to the Bend Bulletin where she laid out her plan to weaken Oregon’s red flag law.

Oregon’s red flag law was passed with strong bipartisan support in 2017 to temporarily prevent individuals, like the Uvalde shooter, from accessing a gun if they are a danger to themselves or others.

But Drazan, who has repeatedly earned an A rating from the NRA, is now arguing to make it harder for judges to require someone to surrender their guns if they are a danger to themselves or others. She said to the Bend Bulletin that the red flag law “does not have enough due process built into it. And I think some of that can be adjusted by administrative role rather than a statutory change.”

“Christine Drazan openly said that if elected governor, she would work to weaken Oregon’s red flag law that keeps guns out of the hands of dangerous people,” said Katie Wertheimer, communications director. “Drazan is making it clearer every day that she will put the gun lobby over the safety of our communities.”
