Reproductive Rights Advocates Urge Voters to Support Tina Kotek for Governor

“This election matters, it matters for us in Oregon and it matters that we stay a beacon of hope for the rest of the country.”

[Portland, OR] – Since Roe vs. Wade was overturned, reproductive freedom has been a top-of-mind issue for voters. In a roundtable moderated by EMILY’s List President Laphonza Butler on Tuesday, Oregon reproductive rights advocates urged Oregonians to vote for Tina Kotek for Governor.

Anne Udall, Executive Board Member of Planned Parenthood PAC of Oregon, wasted no time in outlining the stakes of this election:

“We cannot afford, in any way, shape or form, to allow Oregon to go back .… This election matters, it matters for us in Oregon and it matters that we stay a beacon of hope for the rest of the country.”

An Do, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood PAC of Oregon set the record straight on Christine Drazan and Betsy Johnson, explaining why neither of them can be trusted to protect reproductive rights in Oregon:

“Christine Drazan is a proud Oregon Right to Life-endorsed candidate. She celebrated loudly on Twitter when Roe was overturned.

“And, when it comes to your legislative record, both Christine Drazan and Betsy Johnson came out against the Reproductive Health Equity Fund … We also know that they both voted against the bill that would protect essential health services, reproductive health services, from being dismantled in a merger or acquisition.”

Under Tina’s leadership, the legislature passed the nation’s strongest abortion access law, and as Governor, she will protect and expand reproductive rights. That’s why Tina is the only pro-choice champion in the race endorsed by all leading reproductive rights organizations including Planned Parenthood PAC of Oregon, Pro-Choice Oregon and EMILY’s List.

“Access to health care is something I’ve worked on for years, even before being elected, to make sure that people could have access to health care, because I think it’s a basic human right,” said Tina Kotek, the Democratic nominee for Governor.
