Three Questions Betsy Johnson Refuses to Answer

Last week, reports emerged that Johnson tried to invoke “legislative immunity” after rear-ending another driver. She still refuses to answer questions.

[Portland, OR] – Last week, several news outlets detailed how Betsy Johnson tried to “shirk responsibility” after she rear-ended another driver in 2013 and then tried to “pass the costs of the crash on to taxpayers.” The Oregonian and Tina for Oregon have raised questions about Johnson’s dealings following the crash.

Three Questions Betsy Johnson Refuses to Answer:

  • Why did she believe the State of Oregon and taxpayers should take sole responsibility for her car crash?
  • Does Johnson still stand by the argument that Oregon taxpayers should have paid for the costs resulting from her car crash?
  • Was Johnson aware of her lawyers’ invocation of legislative immunity to defend against the $260,000 personal injury lawsuit?

“Senator Johnson has been running a campaign under the guise of accountability and transparency. Meanwhile, Betsy has made it a habit to dodge questions on the campaign trail,” said Katie Wertheimer, Tina Kotek’s communications director. “Oregonians deserve to know why she worked to place the burden of her mistake onto Oregonians and, as a candidate for governor, is this a decision that she stands by?”
