“Gov. Tina Kotek in the coming months will press to increase police presence in downtown Portland, outlaw public drug consumption, take protective plywood off of buildings and step up social services for those struggling on the streets of Oregon’s largest city.”

“I want all Oregonians to know that the state is moving forward with several new fentanyl strategic enforcement and disruption strategies,” Kotek’s statement said.

“In her inaugural address at the state Capitol in Salem, Kotek said she will declare a homeless state of emergency and sign an executive order to increase housing construction on her first full day in office.”

“You just meet people where they are,” Kotek said. “Let’s talk about our families. Let’s talk about what’s going on in your community. Let’s have a good meal together. You break down those barriers.”

“Kotek said she will declare a state of emergency on homelessness, expand access to mental health and addiction treatment services, and work to “bridge the divisions in our state.”

“Bernie Sanders’ barnstorming tour to rescue the 2022 midterms for Democrats took a spicy turn in Oregon on Thursday. The populist Vermont senator and serial Democratic presidential candidate appeared at a downtown Portland concert venue to stump for Democrat Tina Kotek, who is locked in tight race for governor — thanks largely to the political spending of one billionaire, Nike co-founder Phil Knight.”

“Drazan, who’s the Republican candidate, wants to ban abortion,” Kotek said. “She’s been very clear about that, and as governor would have a lot of ability to impede the work that we have done here in Oregon to provide access to reproductive care. She even sponsored a bill in Oregon that would have gone after providers that are doing abortion care and putting them in jail. That’s a very serious shift of what we have had here in Oregon.”

“If this were a head-to-head, Tina would be ahead by about a zillion points. But in a three-way race, it is possible that Oregon could end up with a trump republican,” Senator Warren said, “I wanted to be here because of how important all the pieces of what’s on the ballot. Tina’s on the ballot. But it also means, access to the full range of healthcare is on the ballot. It also means the survival of our planet is on the ballot.”

“I didn’t come here because I believe this is a safe seat. I came here because Oregon is dangerously close to flipping red, and we have 17 election days to keep that from happen,” Sen. Warren told the crowd.

“In the video, a seated Obama talks directly to the camera, calling Kotek the “real deal.” He describes her legislation to raise the state minimum wage and pass the country’s strongest abortion protections, as well as her campaign priorities of lowering housing and health care costs, protecting the environment and supporting workers.”
