Governor Kotek: “I have been standing alongside Oregonians and fellow advocates for years to protect people and our state when cuts threaten health and safety”
PORTLAND, OR – Last weekend, Governor Tina Kotek gathered SNAP recipients, workers, farmers, food security advocates and community leaders to discuss the impacts of Trump’s HR1, new eligibility requirements, and how Oregon will continue to support food access across the state.
“Governor Kotek understands that these programs aren’t handouts – they are lifelines,” said Federico Araujo, communications director for Tina for Oregon. “From her work with Oregon Food Bank to her hunger emergency declaration during Trump’s federal shutdown, Governor Kotek has consistently fought to ensure Oregonians have the access to the assistance they need.”
Last year, when President Trump’s federal shutdown threatened to cut SNAP benefits, Governor Kotek declared a hunger emergency and moved emergency money to food banks. When the courts ordered the Trump administration to restore SNAP benefits, her team worked through the night to get benefits back into Oregonians’ accounts.
