New TV Ad: Oregon Has Two Right-Wing Candidates for Governor

“Drazan and Johnson: both too right-wing for Oregon”

[Portland, OR] – Ahead of tonight’s gubernatorial debate in Bend, the Tina for Oregon campaign released a new TV ad laying out how both Christine Drazan and Betsy Johnson are too right-wing for Oregon.

There’s Christine Drazan, an anti-choice Republican who is endorsed by an extreme group that opposes abortion even in cases of rape and incest. Drazan celebrated the Supreme Court decision that allowed states to ban abortion in all cases, and in 2019 and 2020, she even sponsored legislation threatening doctors with criminal liability for performing abortions.

Or there’s conservative candidate Betsy Johnson. After the Sandy Hook school shooting, she cast the deciding vote to stop universal background checks on gun sales and even bragged to students that she owned a submachine gun.  And in 2018, Johnson voted to allow convicted domestic abusers and stalkers to buy guns and against a bipartisan red flag law.

“Tina is the only proven leader in this race who will be a force for positive change in Oregon,” said Katie Wertheimer, communications director. “Unlike her right-wing opponents, Tina will always be on the side of working people.”

Below is the transcript for “Two Options”:

[Narrator]: If you want a right wing Oregon, you’ve got two options for governor.

There’s Republican Christine Drazan who wants to ban abortion, taking fundamental rights away from Oregon women.

Or, machine gun-owning Betsy Johnson. She thinks convicted domestic abusers and stalkers should be able to buy guns. And, even after mass shootings, defends military assault weapons.

Drazan and Johnson: both too right-wing for Oregon.
