Portland Metro Area Leaders Endorse Tina Kotek for Governor

[Portland, OR] – Following recent announcements of new endorsements from local leaders in Deschutes and Lane counties, former House Speaker and gubernatorial candidate Tina Kotek today released a list of additional endorsements from Portland-area current and former elected leaders.

“Tina Kotek is absolutely the right choice for Governor. She has been one of our most principled and effective leaders,” said Deborah Kafoury, Multnomah County Chair. “On issues like the minimum wage, family leave, housing, climate change or expanding healthcare and reproductive rights, Tina has brought people together to make progress that makes a difference in people’s lives.”

“Tina Kotek has worked around the clock to tackle our state’s housing crisis, not just in Portland, but in all corners of our state,” said Lynn Peterson, Portland Metro Council President. “Under Tina’s leadership, Oregon made a $75 million investment to create Project Turnkey, an innovative program that created 19 new shelters in 13 counties across the state. And, under Tina’s leadership Oregon has continued to expand access to affordable housing for Oregonians who struggle to find a safe, stable place to live. Tina is the leader that Oregon needs because she brings forward new, bold solutions to Oregon’s greatest challenges.”

“Communities of color in Oregon need a leader who will actually roll up their sleeves to do the work to make our lives better. That’s Tina Kotek” said Carmen Rubio, Portland City Commissioner. “Tina doesn’t just talk about the issues impacting our communities, she gets to work, passing policies that make our communities stronger and healthier. We need Tina to be our next Governor because we need a fighter in the Governor’s office who is ready to deliver for us on day one.”

“Leadership is about more than just having the right ideas and plans to build a better future for your community. Leadership is about taking those ideas and putting them into action, ensuring that the promises we make are felt by every single person they were intended to impact,” said Nafisa Fai, Washington County Commissioner. “As House Speaker, Tina Kotek took innovative policy plans and put them into action, ensuring that our communities felt their impacts. Tina Kotek has been an effective Speaker and I know that she will be an even more effective Governor.”

“It has been my honor to represent North and Northeast Portland in the legislature and play a key role in delivering results for my community,” said Tina Kotek, candidate for Governor. “As Governor, I will continue to work collaboratively with Metro-area leaders to help our houseless neighbors achieve permanent housing, promote a safe transportation system, and create the livable communities we all value.”
