“Gov. Tina Kotek on Thursday hosted an event in Eugene to commemorate the signing of four largely bipartisan bills passed this session, which she says will bring much-needed money, clarity and consistency to local schools.”

“These bills are an essential component of the Governor’s work to break down barriers to more housing construction and bring down the costs of housing across the state.”

“This funding is critical to sustaining essential programs and services that protect Oregonians. We are working alongside our partners to find solutions to fix Oregon’s wildfire funding problem.”

“Oregonians are struggling under the pressure of an increasingly unaffordable housing market,” the governor said in a statement. “After hearing this concern directly from Oregonians from across our state last year, I knew we had to make major progress on our housing crisis during this year’s legislative session.”

“Gov. Tina Kotek in the coming months will press to increase police presence in downtown Portland, outlaw public drug consumption, take protective plywood off of buildings and step up social services for those struggling on the streets of Oregon’s largest city.”

“I want all Oregonians to know that the state is moving forward with several new fentanyl strategic enforcement and disruption strategies,” Kotek’s statement said.

“In her inaugural address at the state Capitol in Salem, Kotek said she will declare a homeless state of emergency and sign an executive order to increase housing construction on her first full day in office.”

“You just meet people where they are,” Kotek said. “Let’s talk about our families. Let’s talk about what’s going on in your community. Let’s have a good meal together. You break down those barriers.”
